Author, Entrepreneur & Activist – Aamina Azhar
In this episode, I have a very special guest: Aamina Azhar, one of the youngest individuals I’ve had on the show. Aamina is a published author, the founder of Sweet Retreat Cakery, and an outspoken activist. All of this while studying Journalism and English Literature at Mount Carmel College! Aamina has even been listed among the top 50 poets by Swadhyay Publications.
Her love of reading began at age nine, and by the age of fifteen, she had already published her first book. Aamina talks about her experience balancing writing, activism, and entrepreneurship. She shares how she manages to unplug and enjoy her hobby of baking delicious treats for her cakery.
In this episode, we talk about:
- • Origins of her passion – What sparked Aamina’s love of writing, and how her parents influenced her passion for literature.
- • Embracing spontaneity – How spontaneity works in her favor when it comes to writing.
- • First publication – The experience of publishing her first book as a teenager.
- • Baking and entrepreneurship – How her hobby of baking led to founding Sweet Retreat Cakery and how it aids her growth as an entrepreneur.
- • Breaking stereotypes – Being a rebel from a young age helped her break stereotypes surrounding her culture and age.
- • Battling imposter syndrome – Learning to deal with imposter syndrome despite her achievements.
- • Activism – Her involvement in the Safe Space Project and balancing activism with all her other roles.
“Creativity, entrepreneurship, and activism – they don’t have to be separate. I found ways to blend them together, and it’s been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.” – Aamina Azhar
